John 13:8 says Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” You can obviously see in this passage that Peter is being nondependent and reluctant to Jesus to wash his feet. One of the worldly beliefs of mankind, is we must clean ourselves spiritually before we come to God. This was part of the Old Testament law. Peter is in awe that God wants to clean Him without requiring something from him. He is probably thinking, “Surely, God couldn’t want to clean us Himself”. If it were possible for man to cleanse Himself out of His own power, we wouldn’t have needed Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. If we are trying to cleanse ourselves, we are still trapped in an old testament mentality, while living in a new testament world. This only leads to slavery. We feel in debt to God instead of friends of God. We live in a slave mentality, and miss out on son ship. Let Jesus come to you today and wash you of the old mentality that leads to sin.
