In Matt 7:14 Jesus says narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Jesus understood the difficulty of living the life of the Spirit because he Himself had to lay down His own life daily. In this saying there is a small key that brings hope; When difficulty arises and you feel as though the enemy is trying to squeeze you out on all points, it only confirms you are at the gate that leads to life.
